Adam Afriyie in Colnbrook to say “NO 2 Heathrow 3”
Adam Afriyie MP was in Colnbrook yesterday to address the crew of the No 2 Heathrow 3 advan and talk to campaigners.
Day 2 of the NO 2 Heathrow 3 tour saw the advan reach Colnbrook where Windsor MP discussed issues around expansion with local residents and campaigners.
Earlier in the day John McDonnell MP gave a rousing speech in Harmondsworth using a megaphone to make himself heard over the aircraft noise. A mobile sound system gave residents a taste of the future if a third runway goes ahead.
Beginning the day 9.30am at Chiswick Town Hall the advan travelled through west London to Harmondsworth Village Green before moving on to Longford and Colnbrook. Today, the final day, will see it head through Richmond and Teddington to Englefield Green.
Mr Afriyie has been an outspoken campaigner against a Third Runway at Heathrow on the grounds that extra flights would create more pollution, impose more noise on people living in the local area, and damage local green spaces and parks.
He favours a new offshore airport with 3 to 5 runways but believes Heathrow has a bright future as a regional airport.
To date he has spoken in 20 debates on Heathrow in the House of Commons, asked 14 written questions to Ministers, published over 30 articles in the national and local media, and replied to as many as 2,000 letters from constituents about Heathrow.
Despite the high profile speakers that turned out to greet the advan Colnbrook’s ward and parish representatives were noticeably absent.
