Austerity causing fights at Tescos, MacTaggart tells Parliament
Fiona Mactaggart told Parliament on Wednesday that austerity is causing fights over discounted items at Slough Tescos.
The Slough MP made the shocking statement during a debate on food banks in the House of Commons.
She also reiterated the message on an interview on BBC radio yesterday.
She said a constituent had reported seeing shoppers fighting on three separate occasions when discounted items were brought out at the Tesco store in Wellington Street.
Ms Mactaggart said:
I wanted to inform you and the Commons that people aren’t only depending on foodbanks, that poor people in Slough are now fighting each other in Tesco when the discount vegetables and fruit come out.
Isn’t that a shocking sign in the 21st century?
Tesco has apparently added extra security to prevent fights from breaking out between shoppers.
