A robber armed with a knife ordered owner Prabaharan Kulam to open his till around 10:45am on Sunday morning (November 8).  But Mr Kulum decided to fight back, pressing the panic button and grabbing an umbrella that was close to hand.

The 5½ ft, slim white man in his mid twenties to thirties, became aggressive and threatened Mr Kulam with the knife but eventually ran off.

Mr Kulam told the Observer:

“He was threatening me with the knife – he tried his best, but I kept my distance and used the umbrella to keep the knife away from me.”

As he ran away the man removed his mask, revealing his face to Mr Kulam and CCTV.  He was described as wearing a dark blue or black top with a light grey hood and light grey elbow patches.

Rajni Prabaharan, his wife, said she is very proud of her husband and that the family do not feel scared.
