Here we go again … by-election set for August 20!
The date for a by-election for Colnbrook with Poyle Parish Council has today been set for August 20.
Here we go again! May’s parish elections weren’t the cleanest on record, but just two months on we are set to go through the whole process again.
Slough Borough Council has today confirmed that a by-election for Colnbrook with Poyle Parish Council will be held on Thursday, August 20 2015. It follows receipt of a letter signed by 10 registered electors from the parish asking for the vacancies to be filled by election.
The by-election is being called to fill the two seats that should have been occupied by the Cheemas following the election on May 7. Last weekend, Cllr Avtar Cheema claimed she and her daughter had been denied taking up their seats on the council by the chair and clerk.
Nomination papers may be obtained, during normal office hours, from the Returning Officer at the council’s offices at St Martin’s Place, 51 Bath Road. Completed nomination papers must be delivered back to St Martin’s Place not later than 4pm on Friday, July 24.
The Notice confirms that Catherine Meek, Head of Democratic Services at Slough Borough Council, is now fulfilling the role of Returning Officer vacated by Kevin Gordon.
If the election is contested, the poll will take place on Thursday, August 20 between the hours of 7am and 10pm.
New applications to vote by post or to change existing postal or proxy arrangements must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, August 5, while new applications to vote by proxy must be received by the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, August 12.
