By-election looms as Nye steps down from Parish Council
In the May 2011 election 23 candidates stood amid widespread dissatisfaction and unsurpassed interest in local politics. Cllr Nye joined forces with other incumbents to campaign effectively as the Independent Minds. Nye voted against chair Peter Hood in May this year in a tumultuous Annual General Meeting that exposed deep divisions in the parish council.
It is unclear yet what the process will be for replacing Cllr Nye. Laurie Paesano was the last co-opted member of the Council and may be similarly co-opted if an election is not called. The rules under which Parish Councils are governed changed recently and no doubt councillors will be reaching for the rule book.
Colnbrook has never had a by-election, and last year’s election was the first contested since the Council was setup.
Neighbouring Iver Parish Council saw its own by-election on August 3rd, with a turnout of just 18.6%.
