A rail campaign group is backing calls for a direct link between Reading and Heathrow as soon as possible. Railfuture claims a rail connection could be built within five years and at a fraction of the cost of the proposed link-in with the HS2 rail project. Network Rail’s Great Western Route Utilisation Strategy supports a link via Slough which would involve using the existing freight only line in Colnbrook.
