A FAILING young people’s centre and youth bus service are set to be scrapped in an overhaul of services to reach more children in their communities and save £250,000.
The Children’s Centre and Library remains closed until further notice while a fault with the heating system is being rectified. Read on for an update.
The recent open days at the new Children’s Centre and Library were a “resounding success” according to Anne Evans, centre manager. During the course of the two days over 120 visitors took the opportunity to look over the facilities available and in many cases try them out.
A schoolgirl from Colnbrook has proved herself a star storyteller by scooping an award. Sophie Popplewell, 10, who goes to Pippins School in Rodney Way, won the Star Writer competition, which was run by Slough Commuity Leisure and the Express series. She won a two game bowling package at Absolutely Ten Pin in Salt Hill Park for her entire class, as well as the engraved Star Award.
The £600,000 new Children’s Centre in Colnbrook will complete Slough’s target of 10 children’s centres in the borough and comes amid research suggesting 47 children’s centres in England have closed or are earmarked for closure because of funding cuts.
The Slough Youth Bus will now be rolling into Colnbrook each and every Wednesday. The Youth Bus is a chance for all you young people aged 13-19 to relax, chill out and get involved in all sorts of activities, such as:
- Nintendo Wii with Outdoor Flat Screen
- 2 x Playstation 3s
- 5 Flat Screen computers
- Gemini CD Mixing Decks
- Arts and Crafts
- Sofa Chill Out Areas
- Music Production
- Sports Equipent (Hockey, Nerf Ball)
- Board Games
So if you’re interested in any of the above whether it be just chilling out or mixing your own tunes come and meet us!
Each and every Monday there will be a drop-in youth session at Westfield Community Hall. We hope to do loads of activities like:
– Art and Graffiti projects
– Employment and Education Advice
– Music Production
– And just somewhere to chill out
