Church behind plan to build new community hub on Green Belt in Colnbrook
Colnbrook Views has learned that St Thomas’ Church has been leading efforts to develop a new community hub, barely a few hundred yards from the Village Hall.
We understand the proposal takes the form of a two-storey building comprising multi-use areas that could be used for both village groups and to support functions.
The new building would be on a disused field owned by the diocese which was previously used for grazing goats. A change of use would be needed for the Green Belt site.
Given the looming threat of airport expansion on the adjacent Strategic Gap, a proposal from the village itself to develop the Green Belt would be a serious blow to any local campaign to fight a Third Runway. If, that is, there was a campaign at all.
Secret meetings have been held for the past six months to discuss the proposals led by the Reverend Peter Wyard. Two parish councillors are known to be represented on the committee, although no public record of their involvement exists and the matter has not featured in meeting minutes. The proposals are at an early stage but initial designs have been produced.
Colnbrook Scouts are understood to be a possible beneficiary of new community space but it is not clear if the new building is a result of any dissatisfaction with the Village Hall which, under its new management, has embarked on a major programme of refurbishment.
