Cllr Cheema succeeds in securing shelter for Brands Hill elderly
Cllr Avtar Cheema has managed to persuade colleagues on the Parish Council to provide shelter for elderly residents at Brands Hill.
She proposed the installation of a bench for the elderly by the bus stop at the Brands Hill BP petrol station in September.
The Finance & Policy Committee agreed to fund the proposal at its meeting on Tuesday 19th.
Cllr Cheema was elected a year ago in a decisive by-election result. She campaigned on a platform of providing a “strong voice” for residents, and protecting local services. Her achievement means she has fulfilled a manifesto pledge.
…investing the £40 a year that the Parish costs every Colnbrook resident in better services: making improvements to the streets, parks and playgrounds in our area
The price seat will cost £525 plus installation.
The new bench wasn’t the only seating discussed at the meeting. The committee agreed to replace two benches in Colnbrook Recreation Ground which Cllr Ray Angell complained were showing signs of wear and tear.
The new park benches will cost another £500, plus £100 delivery, bringing the total to £1,125.
At the same meeting councillors were asked to consider quotes of £1,375 each to replace the existing noticeboards in need of repair. The parish has seven noticeboards currently throughout the parish. Sponsorship will be sought to fund them, and for the repainting of the lamp columns and bollards.
