Colnbrook to host town’s “movers and shakers” tonight for the Slough Business Awards 2015
A lavish ceremony for the Slough Business Awards 2015 will take place tonight at the Poyle Hilton.
Hosted by the hugely funny BBC Award winning Comedian Lee Hurst, it promises to be an entertaining event full of inspiration, surprise and great networking with all the movers and shakers of the Slough and Thames Valley Economic Area in attendance.
13 awards will be presented tonight at a lavish gala dinner for the Slough Business Awards 2105 – to be hosted by award-winning comedian Lee Hurst.
Heathrow, naturally, is the ‘platinum sponsor’ for the ceremony, and has also been nominated for Corporate Business of the Year, along with Telefonica, Mars, Leaseplan, the Poyle Hilton, and SBC partner Arvato. In December the airport won the ‘Greenest Business of the Year’ at the West London awards.
Slough chief executive Ruth Bagley set out her vision last week for a closer relationship with the airport. She wants Slough to be the best place to do business in by 2019, but acknowledges that “an unhealthy population, [and] inequality in healthy lives” are key challenges.
SEGRO, Santander, East Berkshire College, Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, Eacotts, and Slough Borough Council are also ‘gold sponsors’ for the event which will see prizes awarded to those companies showing the biggest commitment to skills, green business practice, exports, innovation, and workforce health.
As well as the key Business of the Year award there are separate prizes for Startup, Micro, Community–based, Small/Medium Sized Enterprise, and Corporate Business of the Year.
The Slough Business Awards are open to all 18,000 businesses operating within the geographical boundaries of the Slough and SL postcodes. Business can be self-nominated or be suggested by any SL Postcode resident or business.
An award for Entrepreneur of the Year will be given to the individual or company which exemplifies “true entrepreneurial spirit, risk taking, resilience and identification of opportunity to grow”, while a separate Female Entrepreneur of the Year will also be offered to any business whose majority shareholding or ownership is held by a female entrepreneur.
Finally, a Contribution to Enterprise Special Award will be given to the individual or organisation who has done most to promote enterprise in the town.
All entrants are required to state why Slough is important to them as a place to do business.
Tickets for the black tie event are still available, priced at £90 each, or £850 for your own table of ten. The prices includes a “high quality 3 course meal, music and entertainment”.
Updates will no doubt be placed on the ceremony’s Facebook page as they happen.
