Council to determine Colnbrook Parish Council’s future by Christmas

The first of two consultation periods giving residents the opportunity to give their views on the Parish Council closed on Friday.  Slough Borough Council will now spend the Summer reviewing responses before making recommendations on the its future.

Slough Borough Council’s review into Colnbrook with Poyle Parish Council completed its first phase on Friday, with the end of a call for submissions from residents of the parish.

The Community Governance Review was formally launched by Slough on 11th June following a report to the full Council in May.

A similar review in 2013 resulted in:

  • An advisory poll returning a majority in favour of abolition of Britwell Parish Council.  The Council made changes to the boundary of Britwell Parish Council, reduced the number of councillors from 13 to 7; and agreed that public opinion be tested again in a further four years’ time.
  • An advisory poll returned a majority in favour of the retention of Wexham Court Parish Council.  The Council reserved the right to test public opinion again in the future if concerns about its governance arrangements remained.
  • The Council found that Colnbrook with Poyle Parish Council needed to engage more widely with local people.  It reserved the right to testing public opinion in an advisory postal poll if it was not satisfied of improvement.

The Council has appointed a working group comprising the cabinet member for Transformation and Performance, Councillor Sabia Hussain, three further Labour members and two members of the opposition to work with its Head of Democratic Services on the review.

A further consultation will be held in November and final recommendations will be published at the end of the year.
