Does anybody remember The Plough in Colnbrook?
Do you remember or know of The Plough in Colnbrook? If so, the descendant of a Colnbrook landlady from the 1930s would like to hear from you.
Sandy Stevens, from Ontario, Canada, is hoping to find out more about the pub, home for grandmother Ruby Stevens in the 1930’s and possible into the 1940’s.
Having found a link to The Plough on Colnbrook Views, Sandy contacted the website yesterday to ask for information on the pub, or its occupants, in the 1930’s and possibly into the 40’s?
My grandmother, who would have been known as Ruby Stevens lived with John (or Jack) Walker Stevens, who I believe was the landlord, possibly around 1937 and onwards. He was definitely there in 1939 as is listed in the phone directory.
Information is scarce, but Slough Library dates The Plough Boarding House to sometime around 1899. It places it on London Road, Brands Hill, opposite the junction with Sutton Lane; it’s visible on the Ordnance Map for 1924.
Can you verify this?
If you can, or if you know of any records or photos that exist from John and Ruby’s time at the pub please do post below – or drop a note to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be happy to pass the information along.
