With Christmas approaching fast and the inevitable last minute rush to ensure presents are bought, wrapped and ready waiting under the tree for Christmas morning, the following words of caution should be borne in mind…. Don’t tell strangers what Santa got you for Christmas!
Thames Valley Police would like to warn you against the dangers of leaving the packaging of those expensive gifts bought for Christmas uncovered and intact outside your front door, next to or in the bin awaiting its weekly or in some cases fortnightly collection. Be cautious in how you dispose of this packaging as the box for the latest wide screen TV or games console with the item pictured, in most cases for all to see across the packaging, is simply advertising what might be on offer to a burglar and might tip the scales in making your property a more appealing target than the next.
Why not in order to prevent this from being an issue properly flatten/tear up such packaging and place within a black bin bag and place in the bin. Better still, take advantage of your local refuse and recycling tip and keep the packaging within the home until you can manage a trip to the tip.
