Drivers stopped for speeding
MORE than 80 drivers have been caught speeding in checks run in a clamp down by the police.
The checks were carried out in response to concerns raised by residents in Poyle Road and Old Bath Road in Colnbrook, Eton Wick Road in Eton, Sutton Road and Whytelaydies Lane in Cookham and Norway Drive in Slough.
A total of 85 drivers were stopped for exceeding the 30mph speed limit, with speeds ranging from 35mph to 47mph, between last Tuesday (15/9) and Friday (18/9).
PC Bob Wade, Road Safety Constable from the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, said: “Theses check were organised in response to residents direct requests, after their lives are blighted by the menace of speeding vehicles. The amount of drivers caught is disappointing as some of these roads are residential roads where the dangers are more serious.
Those travelling at 40mph and above were issued with £60 fines and three penalty points. Drivers travelling between 35mph and 39mph were given the chance to accept education, either roadside education or a speed awareness course from Drive Tech, in place of the fine and points.
