Local hospitals move closer to merger
The merger of two local hospital trusts looks more likely following a joint announcement that Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has decided to undertake further work relating to the potential acquisition of Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Work will now begin on the preparation of a detailed business case that will form the basis of further discussions with Monitor – the foundation trust regulator – and the Department of Health. This will be a joint exercise with staff from both trusts.
A joint statement from the chairs of both trusts just over a week ago said:
“We are delighted to be moving forward with this potential acquisition. We will be working with our colleagues over the course of the summer to explore the opportunities that an acquisition might provide. This is likely to take several months and at the appropriate time we will provide a further progress report.”
