As part of Maidenhead U3A, the 10 science enthusiasts visited the Grundon Materials Recycling Facility.

They were given a talk about the growth and development of recycling, and how the company deals with materials including aluminium, steel, glass paper and plastics.

Grundon is currently working with manufactures to find ways of recycling products without incineration.

Chairman of Maidenhead U3A, Harry Burnham, said:

It was wonderful and extremely educational.  The most interesting thing we learnt was how the materials are separated.

U3A, which stand for University of the Third Age, is a national organisation that provides opportunities and hobby groups for the retired and semi-retired.

The visit took place on Thursday, November 21.
