McTaggart calls for action on inconvenient doctors surgeries
From the Slough Express:
More than seven million patients think their GP surgery opening hours are inconvenient, according to data published by Labour. And Slough tops the league with more than one in every four patients feeling that hours are inconvenient.
Slough’s MP Fiona Mactaggart said:
“People want to be able to book an appointment with a GP outside of normal working hours, especially in a hard working town like Slough where many people work in more than one job.
“It’s hard to take time off during work, and many people also have to commute or pick their children up after school.”
She has written to Slough’s GP-led Clinical Commissioning Group to ask them to act to improve the chances of getting an appointment.
Dr Gurdip Hear, Slough (CCG) director for patient and public engagement, said the CCG is aware of the issue and has included ‘improving access for patients in our commitment to improving services in Slough’.
He said that Slough’s GPs are working harder than ever and demand for appointments is ever increasing so discussion needs to take place to find a solution.
