Parish Clerk post advertised
Colnbrook Parish Council has begun its search for a successor to clerk Roland Hewson.
The Parish Council is advertising for the post of ‘Parish Clerk/Responsible Finance Office (Designate)’.
The successful candidate will assume the responsibilities of existing Clerk and Finance Officer Roland Hewson when he retires on 31st March 2015.
This is an interesting and varied part-time post, working initially for 10 hours per week leading to 16 hours per week. Working mainly from the Parish Council Office or home, but with two meetings per month (except August and December), candidates should be self-motivated, able to work on their own initiative and will need to have good literacy, numeracy and I.T. skills.
Responsibilities will ultimately include the preparation of agendas, taking minutes at meetings and dealing with all correspondence and maintenance of the Council’s website and notice boards together with the compilation of the Council’s newsletters. Dealing with members of the public during office opening hours will also form part of the role. The Clerk in the capacity of Responsible Finance Officer is responsible for paying invoices, reconciliation of bank accounts, accounting and budgeting.
The advertisement expects the successful applicant to obtain qualifications that could assist the parish to gain Council’s Quality Council status indicating that this remains on the agenda. Previous experience or knowledge of local government is preferred though not essential.
No reference is made to local knowledge, a criteria that 91% of Colnbrook Views readers voting last year said was most important.
The post will initially pay between £8.42 and £12.05 per hour, plus expenses and approved mileage, for ten hours per week. It is not clear yet if this will be additional expenditure for the parish or whether Mr Hewson will begin to transition some of his hours as soon as the new candidate is appointed.
Closing Date for applications: Friday 16th May 2014.
