Parish councillor offers to fund poll over travellers site’
A parish councillor in Datchet has offered to pay for a parish poll on extension of a controversial travellers’ site in Datchet.
Windsor & Maidenhead Council voted to develop the site, Mill Place, in October. Datchet Parish Council did not object.
Cllr Ewan Larcombe of the Parish Council hit out at a meeting on Monday.
I am concerned about the shortcomings of the consultation process, the lack of honesty, openness and transparency, the failure to consider alternatives, and the associated costs.
He said parish chairman Linda O’Flynn had not given the parish council the opportunity to consider the proposal and that the full facts of the proposal were not known by parish councillors.
Cllr Larcombe proposed a parish poll but this was rejected on the basis of cost. He now says he is willing to pay the cost himself.
The parish will defer a decision on whether to hold a poll until after an inquiry by the Department for Communities and Local Government.
