Parish gets set to declare the winner of the Colnbrook Community Cup!

Parish councillors will tomorrow night vote for the 2014 winner of the Colnbrook Community Cup, and it will be a particularly poignant agenda item for outgoing clerk Roland Hewson.

At tomorrow night’s last full parish council meeting before the August recess, councillors will decide who will be this year’s beneficiary of the annual Colnbrook Community Cup.  This year’s Cup has been particularly low key – no nominations have been request and none declared publicly.  Last year’s Cup went outside the village for the first time, going to Slough Borough Council Community Project Officer Esther Deacon – ending a run of three years in which councillors themselves or their employees received the award.

The Colnbrook Community Cup was created with the intention of recognising the unsung heroes of the community who helped make the parish a better place to live in, whether it be an individual, a group of individuals or an organisation.

The award will be particularly significant for Parish Clerk Roland Hewson who donated the cup to the parish in 1997.  Tomorrow night sees clerk Roland Hewson attend his last meeting of Colnbrook Parish Council before his retirement.

And in a year that has seen a resurgent community spirit it is anybody’s guess who the Parish will choose.  Will Sean Kelly’s reinvigorated Colnbrook Residents Association be recognised for its efforts in developing community cohesion?  Or the Colnbrook Youth Club, now with over 120 members enrolled?  What about Alasdair Garbett as the GSL for Colnbrook Scout Group who narrowly missed out last year.   Or Khalsa Aid for coming to the aid of flood-stricken residents in their hour of need during February’s flooding?

Or will Mr Hewson himself be recognised for the longevity of his service and immense contribution to the village?
