Thames Valley Police is appealing for information following a distraction burglary in Wraysbury.

Just before 2pm on Monday 20 February, the elderly victim was at her home in Nursery Close when a man knocked on her front door. He said he was from the council and that there was a problem with damp at the property next door, and that he needed to check her loft.

Believing that he did work for the council, the victim allowed him into the house and showed him upstairs where he removed the loft hatch. He then asked for a drink, which the victim went downstairs to make for him.

After the offender had left, the victim realised that gold jewellery was missing from her dressing table and jewellery box. The offender drove away in a ‘dirty white’ coloured car.

Among the jewellery stolen were a gold sapphire ring, a gold buckle ring with diamonds, a gold bracelet, a gold necklace and a string of costume pearls.

The offender is white, in his mid-to-late twenties, 5ft 10ins, well built, with black hair, a plump face, dark-coloured eyes and clean-shaven. He was wearing a yellow hi-vis jacket.

Investigating officer Det Con Amanda Winterbourne, based at Maidenhead Force CID, would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this burglary, or who may know the identity of the offender.

Anyone with any information which could help the investigation can call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101.

If you do not want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
