Purchase of Colnbrook Surgery to be debated tonight!
Parish councillors will tonight debate moving forward with a bold plan to purchase the Colnbrook branch surgery.
Tonight’s full meeting of the Parish Council will see a motion debated to seek approval from the Secretary of State for proposed borrowing to purchase the Colnbrook and Orchard GP surgeries.
The move follows confirmation by Slough Borough Council that the buildings have been formally listed as Assets of Community Value. The listed status is a tool introduced under the Localism Act 2011 that gives councils and community groups the right to block sale of a potential community “asset” in order to raise the funds to buy it.
The move may not go through unchallenged tonight. Cllr Kinane went on record six weeks ago to dispute the claim that the landlord is the problem in the on-going saga of the threatened Colnbrook surgery. However residents have consistently expressed concern that the surgery may be lost to the community.
Listed status lasts six months only and was last attempted locally by residents of Iver. In August 2013, community asset status was awarded for The Bull pub and a campaign of fund-raising began. The campaign unfortunately failed.
