Local MPs appear at odds over SIFE
While Fiona MacTaggart, MP for Slough, has come out against the massive SIFE development, Colnbrook’s MP, Adam Afriyre, appears to be maintaining his non-committal stance to the anger of local residents. MacTaggart, Labour MP for Slough, has offered her full support to stopping SIFE, including lobbying other local MPs. The offer was made in correspondence to stopSIFE committee member Cllr. James Walsh.
Windsor’s Conservative MP Adam Afriyie today responded to stopSIFE’s request for help with some evasive words:
I really appreciate you keeping me updated on the situation in Slough and thank you for passing on your comments regarding the handling of the case by the local Council.
While Afriyie agreed to pass on concerns to Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, his failure to offer support to the campaign has disturbed the stopSIFE campaign which has stated:
It is our hope that Eric Pickles’ premature (and inappropriate) support for SIFE announced in July will not prevent our MP championing this cause.
