Travellers move camp to church
TRAVELLERS who illegally set up camp outside Colnbrook Village Hall have left the site – only to move across the road to a church.
The camper van and trailer left the site after the council said that would serve an eviction order, but made themselves at home at St Thomas’ Church in Vicarage Way.
The move has infuriated residents, who blame the council for not having a tougher stance on the travellers, who they claim are causing a health hazard with their mess.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “They can just do whatever they like and the council does not do anything about it. They have now moved onto private land, making a real mess and they know there is nothing we can do about it because the council certainly isn’t interested now that its not their problem anymore. This was a nice quiet street, but it’s being ruined by people who do not care about the environment or their neighbours.”
Although an eviction order was served to the travllers two weeks ago by the Diocese of Oxford, they have still not budged.
Parish Council leader Laurie Tucker said: “Slough Borough Council was not proactive in the first instance over a month ago when the travellers moved to the Village Hall and that is why it has now become an issue for private landowners.”
A spokeswoman for the council said that environmetal health officers were aware of the situation.
