Winner of Colnbrook Community Cup to be announced on 4th July
The winner of the 2017 Colnbrook Community Cup has been decided – but you’ll have to wait until next month to find out who has won as parish councillors have used secrecy rules normally used for discussing tenders or personnel matters to keep the decision under wraps.
The winner of the 2017 Colnbrook Community Cup will be announced on Tuesday 4th July following a vote by parish councillors two weeks ago.
This year’s winner is being kept secret, but we know that at least four nominations were received in total.
Chair Cllr Scott Bryant took the unusual step at last month’s parish council meeting to formally invite nominations for the cup from members of the public. Although the invitation was not widely shared, two nominations had been received by the Parish Council’s Services committee meeting two weeks later. Cllr Hood put forward a third, and Cllr Elum-Smith a fourth.
The Colnbrook Community Cup recognises the unsung heroes of our community who go that extra mile to make the Parish and the lives of those that live in it, a better place. Whether they be an individual, a group or an organisation, the Colnbrook Community Cup celebrates their efforts and achievements. The Cup was donated by the first parish clerk, now Freeman of the Parish, Roland Hewson, and the annual competition remains a legacy of his long service to the village.
Nominations formally closed on Tuesday, 6th June, and parish councillors were due to vote on nominees at the full parish council meeting that evening. The vote was again carried out as under “part II” secrecy rules where the public may be excluded on the grounds that publicity would be prejudicial to the public interest by reason of the confidential nature of the business to be transacted.
For those interested in the result you’ll have to wait for the award of the Cup to be made at the next full meeting of the council on Tuesday, 4th July.
Last year the Cup went to Langley resident Janet Morgan, for services to St Thomas’ Church.
